1. You can't get that laptop running WoW efficiently. It's too old and low-end. And since you cannot upgrade the gaming hardware on a laptop, you're going to need an entirely new computer. Sorry.
2. It's not that bad! I use Compaq too, 3gb ram 32-bit and it runs WoW just fine. Try lowering your settings to the minimum and turn each one up until you find what's making you lag! If it doesn't work, try buying some more memory cards for it.
3. For those who say it cannot be done fear not! I had one of those old dells from 2004 and got wow running on it. Granted, it wasnt amazing quality and i couldnt go into main cities but it got the job done. First off, check whats running on your comp. CTRL+ALT+DEL and end anything that you dont need, and keep it from not opening. It uses your comps memory and ram, etc. Second, open internet explorer > tools > internet options and under the first tab that pops up, you will see the a column that says browsing history. Open the settings button on that (might look diff for you, im on windows XP) and max out the Temporary Internet Files option to whatever it will go to. I don't know why but it helps tremendously. Before i did that WoW would get stuck and the loading screen and wouldnt load, now i can play =] Once you log-in, turn your sound off and set your resolution as low as possible as well as all graphics, spell detail, etc. Also, you can CTRL+ALT+DEL once logged into the game, and explorer.exe is not needed when you play WoW so that can free up some space. To get it back once your done, CTRL+ALT+DEL again and start explorer.exe. I hope this helped!
4. There are Laptops designed specifically for gaming but I am afraid these configuration may not fully support WoW. You may be able to install and run the game, however you will miss out on lots of feature the game has to provide.
MMORPG are resource intensive application.
5. You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
