What does the game Warcraft have to do with World of Warcraft? Also World of Warcraft expansions?
I am looking into getting WoW. But I saw something about a game called Warcraft that seems to be some kind of prequel. Please tell me what it has to do with the game. Also about he WoW expansions? Do they just unlock new places to go in the game? New characters? Please any additional information I may need is greatly appreciated!

1. Warcraft started long before World of Warcraft came out but most kids these days don't know that. I believe the first one was called Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, I never played it, so I'm not sure what lore it offers, I assume something about Medihv or whatever his name is brought the orcs to Azeroth. Warcraft 2 had alot to deal with the Dark Portal if I remember correctly. Warcraft 3 takes place right before World of Warcraft. It dealt with the Burning Legion about to invade Azeroth, and Medihv trying to unite all of the races of Azeroth to prevent it.
The expansions unlock new races, content, and allows you to level past 60.
2. Warcraft 1,2, and 3 are strategy games (completely different genre) which tell the events leading up to world of warcraft. world of warcraft's burning crusade expansions add 2 new races, new cities (and a whole new continent), and the Wrath of the Lick King adds a new class called a hero class, so after you have reached level 55 in any character, you can play as a death knight, which actually starts the game at level 55. (while also adding a whole new continent)
And if that isnt enough incentive, each expansion raises the level cap by acouple levels e.g. burning crusade raises it from 60 to 70, wrath of the lich king raises it from 70 to 80, and the soon-2-b-expansion cataclysm will raise it up to level 85 (while also, yet again, adding 2 new races and new areas)
I hope that helps! any more Q's email me at guitaristocrat@aol.com.
3. Warcraft (and its sequels) are the prequels to World of Warcraft. Warcrafts 1, 2, and 3 are all RTS games, and aren't necessary to play WoW, but give a lot of background to the conflict present in WoW.
The two current expansions for WoW both add new locations to the existing world of Azeroth. The Burning crusade adds the continent of Outland to explore, two new races to play as (Blood Elves for the Horde and Draenei for the Alliance), increases the level cap to 70, and adds new items, monsters, dungeons, quests, etc...
The Wrath of the Lich adds the continent of Northrend to explore, raises the level cap to 80, adds a "Hero Class" (one that can only be used once a player has reached level 50 with any one character) called the Death Knight, adds the inscription profession, and also adds new items, monsters, dungeons, quests, etc...
Wrath of the Lich King is probably the game that most benefits from having played the Warcraft sequels, as the main enemy, Arthas/The Lich King is the primary protagonist in Warcraft 3.
4. Ok you see Warcraft is a game where u follow a story line while building ur city and battling monsters and such Now after getting amazing reviews for warcraft the came out with World of warcraft which is not alot like warcraft in the realm of gameplay in warcraft u had to follow a story in where in World of warcraft u can level and customize your own player and make your own adventures in the world of azeroth, as for the expansions see when an expansion comes out its not another game u simply download the expansion {after buying it} and every expansion holds new possibility's like the whole diffrent planet of the outworld in Burning crusade or a new continent and new items and a new class in Wrath of the lich king also burning crusade has new races like dreani and Blood elf.
5. Warcraft = there are 3 of these and they have to do with a birds ey7e view of the game and what you do is build yourself an army and then you attack the enemy
World of Warcraft also known a WoW = you are one person who you have to level to 80 at the moment and get good gear (you are able to verse people all around the world or work with them)
there are 3 of these which are expansions and you have to pay a monthly subscription
