Can I use a used version of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King?
I thought that I had to register the game to my account to play it but my cousin insists that even though I dont have the expansion registered to my Battle.net account as long as the expansion is installed on my computer I can still access places like Northrend and Icecrown Citadel and get all the expansions features even though it isnt registered to my Battle.net account. Will that work?
Well my cousin said that both he and his uncle are using the same copy of Wrath of the Lich and he does go to Northrend all the time and does have many Deathknights and level 80's.

1. No, your account needs to have wrath of the lich king registered to it otherwise you can't level past 70 or go to northrend.2. Maybe they both installed from a single set of CDs, but the CD Key or activation code must be unique per account. I have 4 copies of WoW and WoW TBC, but only 3 copies of WoW WotLK (daughter lost interest in the game so never upgraded her account). I can use the CDs from any of the game boxes, but the keys are unique per login and only the logins with the associated activation will allow access to the WotLK content.
3. Your cousin is wrong.
What people don't seem to understand is that the files for the game and expansions are free; what you are paying for is your account. You of course need to pay for your account to be upgraded to use the new content, even if the files are installed on your computer.
When you upgrade your account to Lich King, the servers grant you access to the content. You can play on a computer with the Lich King files on it, but unless you have upgraded your account (aka bought the expansion for yourself online or by disk) you will not be able to level past 70, go into LK areas, nor make a dk.
They probably used the same disk to install the files on both of their computers (the files are free). If they both have dks/lvl 80s, they have both bought the account upgrade.
You can dl the entire client, including WoTLK files for free from the Blizz site at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/download_wow.html . There's no harm in installing it now for when you do upgrade your account; you absolutely will get no benefit until you pay to upgrade your account though.
