Why is my World of Warcraft installer giving me an error message?
Every time I get to about 77% in the installer an error message pops up and says the installer has to close. I've tried installing it 3 times, but nothing has worked.
I've installed World of Warcraft the original game, and also patched to the latest patch. Please help, I don't know what's wrong.

1. This happened to me on my laptop when I tried to install Wrath of the Lich King, I'm unsure which expansion or even the regular game you are installing. Although If you start from the regular World of Warcraft and make your way through the expansions individually (Starting with the Original through in this order - Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm.) That seemed to do the trick. Also if neither I or anyone else answers this question correctly feel free to call the Blizzard Support line, although you will be on hold for some time they get the job done.
Happy Trails to 85!
2. The current version of World of Warcraft is 4.0.3a. It's an MMO, which means it's totally client-server. Your client has to match the server, which means your copy of the game must be 4.0.3a or it won't work.
If you've already been playing, you already have 4.0.3a on your computer. For sure.
If you install old CDs from original WoW, BC or Lich King, you are installing a very old version. Don't bother, it will take days to patch.
DEFINITELY do not install old CDs on top of a game that you've been playing. Trying to install old game discs on top of 4.0.3a causes that "stuck at 74/77%" error.
If you have messed up your installation beyond EASY repair, the single fastest way to get back in the game is to go to the official website, log in, go to "Account", hit "Download game client", pick the appropriate one (it's the same client for all expansion) -- and download.
The new downloader knows how to download JUST enough stuff to get you playing, and this happens very fast - 10 minutes for me.dw
